Treatments
All treatments are evidence-informed and consent-based, blending therapeutic techniques with a calm, supportive approach that honours both your body and your nervous system.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy massage is like a normal massage in many ways! The main difference is the goal of treatment. Most conditions that occur during pregnancy (or past conditions that “flare up “ during pregnancy) are due to the pregnancy, hence they’ll go away when you’re no longer pregnant! Generally, the goal of pregnancy massage is to address the (often very normal and expected) side effects of being pregnant. Whether this is low back pain, sciatica, swelling, lower abdominal pain, rib pain, fatigue, or stress, massage is a great way to manage symptoms and discomfort throughout your pregnancy. Specific positioning and assessment are key throughout your pregnancy appointments – safe and effective care is always the priority.
Postpartum
Regardless of the way your baby came into the world, postpartum massage is a beautiful thing to treat your body to after it’s done some really hard work. Typically, postpartum is the first ~3 months after birth. Extra care is taken during these appointments to address common postpartum issues, whether it’s upper body or back pain due to prolonged positioning from baby caring, breast massage when indicated, abdominal massage when indicated, or nervous system-focused work to help you come back into your body. Receiving a massage is a low-stress & low-stakes environment, and you are always welcome to bring your baby to the appointment.
Note: Those who have lost pregnancies or babies are also welcome to book in for postpartum massage or as a general treatment. You are a parent as well and also in a season of change. Please do whatever feels right for you.
Post Surgical & Scar Work
Post surgical massage looks different for everyone. In the early days after a surgery the goal of massage is assisting in relaxation, lymphatic drainage, addressing compensatory pain and gentle passive movement to promote healing. As your healing progresses, mainly once the incision is fully closed and the risk of infection is gone, the goals become to address the scar tissue, regain optimal range of motion & strength and address any areas needing nerve stimulation. C-sections, mastectomies, joint replacements, and ligament & tendon reconstruction are the most common surgeries that massage helps with. Your comfort and safety are the most important thing during your recovery – if you have any questions about if you could safely benefit from post surgical massage or scar work please reach out.
Injury Recovery
Did you take a hit in a beer league game and now can’t turn your head? Did your dog pull you down a hill, and now you can’t lift your arm above your shoulder? Do you have a history of low back pain and have been running on little sleep, high stress and then went to lift a lawn mower into a truck by yourself, and now you can’t bend over? Injuries can happen from doing almost anything, and can feel really scary and overwhelming when they occur. Massage can assist in the recovery of most soft tissue injuries. A proper assessment is always important when an injury is present to rule out anything that you might be unaware occurred (fractures, nerve damage, ligament / tendon rupture, concussion, etc). Massage can also assist in the recovery of older injuries and maintenance of them, but what will often be the most important piece is what you do outside of the treatment room (hello strength training and lifestyle adjustments!).
